Praia das Adegas is a small cove next to the bigger beach of Odeceixe. It’s accessed via a steep trail and a wooden staircase. A sign at the top of the stairs warns you that this is an official nude beach. You’re of course free to keep your bathing suit on, but you should respect the designation of the place. If you’re not comfortable with nudity or are too shy to take it all off, you should head to the neighboring beach instead.
It’s surrounded by cliffs, so it’s protected from the wind. It’s 200 meters (about 650 feet) long, but when the tide rises, it loses much of its space. At high tide in July and August, there’s often little free space between sunbathers. This has become a popular destination for all kinds of people who enjoy naturism -- from young couples to families, locals and tourists. Although a large number of beaches on this coast (Costa Vicentina) are nude-friendly, this is the only one that’s officially a nude beach in western Algarve.
At low tide, it’s sometimes possible to go around the cliff to Odeceixe Beach. The water is usually quite rough here and the currents can be strong. You should be very careful when swimming, as there’s no lifeguard supervision. Also keep some distance from the cliffs, as rocks may fall. When you arrive or before you leave, stop to admire the view from the top of the cliffs.
There are no facilities here. For meals or a bathroom, you have to go to Odeceixe Beach. The access via a staircase means that this is not a beach for the disabled or those with mobility issues.

How to Get to Praia das Adegas
There’s no public transportation to this beach. You need to go by car, at least from the village of Odeceixe. There’s a bus on weekdays from Lagos to Odeceixe (Vamus bus 79), taking about 1 hour and 25 minutes, but there are just 3 or 4 departures per day. From the village to Praia das Adegas it’s just 10 minutes. Walking is not recommended, as you have to go down a road with little pedestrian space, and it takes about 40 minutes. You can park in a parking lot above the beach.
Beaches by Praia das Adegas
In addition to the neighboring Praia de Odeceixe, you can visit Praia de Vale dos Homens, about 20 minutes by car, to the south. It’s a long and wild beach, and naturism is tolerated on the secluded northern side, over the rocks.
Hotels by Praia das Adegas
Casas do Moinho
Traditional houses located by Odeceixe’s landmark windmill have been carefully restored, preserving the original architecture. Inside, however, they’re completely contemporary and with all the modern comforts. There are nine houses, and guests have access to an outdoor swimming pool in the back, with a view of the windmill.
