Sagres Transportation Guide

How to go to Sagres from Lisbon, Lagos or Faro Airport, by bus, taxi, Uber or pre-booked private transfer

Bus to Sagres from Lagos, Algarve, Portugal

Sagres is the farthest coastal town from Faro Airport and Lisbon. It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to drive from the airport and 3 hours and 10 minutes from Lisbon. There’s an express bus from the capital, but no direct transportation from the airport. If you’re spending a holiday in Europe’s southwesternmost town, here is how you get there:

From Faro Airport to Sagres

The only ways to go directly from Faro Airport to Sagres are renting a car or booking a transfer. Just follow the signs at the arrivals hall, and you’ll find the offices of the different car rental companies outside. If you book a transfer, the driver will be waiting for you at the arrivals hall. These are your transfer options:

- Faro Private Transfer to Sagres

- Private Transfer from Faro to Sagres

Alternatively, there’s Uber, which could cost between 80 and 110 euros. A taxi should be more than that. Going by public transportation might save you some money, but it will take quite some time! There are no buses to Sagres from Faro Airport, so you need to go to the center of Faro first, by bus or taxi. The bus stops outside the arrivals hall around every 30 minutes and you buy your ticket from the driver. Faro’s bus station is the last stop, reached in 15 to 20 minutes. While the taxi is more expensive (it should be between 10 and 15 euros to the bus station), it saves you time.

Once at the bus station in Faro, you can continue your journey by bus or train. Either way, you’ll need to connect in Lagos, since, surprisingly, there’s no direct transportation from Faro to Sagres. The Faro-Lagos bus is number 57, operated by Vamus. Times and frequency vary throughout the year, but there are usually about half a dozen departures on weekdays and only a couple on weekends. It takes 2 hours and 10 minutes because it makes many stops in between. Tickets are bought at the ticket office at the station, not from the driver. You need to place your luggage in the compartment beneath the bus. The Faro-Lagos train has nine daily departures and takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes. The frequency and journey time makes it a better choice than the bus. Once in Lagos, this is how you can continue to Sagres:

From Lagos to Sagres

There are no trains to Sagres, but Vamus bus 47 takes you there from Lagos. It departs from Lagos’ bus station about eight or nine times per day on weekdays (depending on the season) and just five times on weekends. It takes between 50 minutes and 1 hour and 20 minutes, depending on how many stops it makes on the way. You could also choose to take an Uber from Lagos to Sagres, which could cost 25 to 35 euros. A taxi would be more expensive.

From Lisbon to Sagres

There’s one express bus per day (sometimes two, depending on the season) from Lisbon to Sagres. It departs from the Sete Rios terminal, usually in the afternoon, and takes about 4 hours. In between, it just stops in Portimão, Lagos and Vila do Bispo. Alternatively, take the train from Oriente Station to Lagos and then bus 47 from there, as indicated above. However, the train to Lagos is not direct, and you have to connect in Tunes. The bus is therefore the fastest and most convenient option, and the price of the train plus the bus is about the same as the express bus.
