Praia da Angrinha

Praia da Angrinha beach guide, how to get there and where to stay

Praia da Angrinha, Ferragudo

Separated from the bigger Praia Grande do Ferragudo by a 17th-century fort, this is the closest beach to the center of the village of Ferragudo. The water often reaches the fort, but at low tide you can go around the monument to the neighboring beach. In fact, they both become one long beach when the tide is low.

Praia da Angrinha, Ferragudo, Algarve

Very few people come here except for a few locals, but if you want an alternative to the more crowded beaches in the area, it’s an option you’ll end up enjoying. You have a view of the Portimão skyline right in front, and the presence of the castle-like fort gives it a romantic atmosphere. The fort is also known as Castelo de São João de Arade and protected the port of Portimão. Today it’s private property and not open for visits.

Praia da Angrinha

The water is a mix of the Arade River and the Atlantic, but is clean and good for swimming. It’s very calm, so it’s child-friendly. You’ll see many boats heading into Portimão’s marina or out to sea, and people windsurfing and sailing.

Castelo, Praia da Angrinha, Algarve

On the northern end are fishing boats and fishermen huts, but there are no facilities here, or even lifeguards. For meals or a bathroom, you have to go to Praia Grande do Ferragudo. If you want shade, bring an umbrella, as there are no rentals.

How to Get to Praia da Angrinha

You can walk to this beach from the center of Ferragudo. If you’re driving, there’s parking behind it. It’s less than 15 minutes from Portimão and just over 15 minutes from Carvoeiro. There’s also a bus that stops nearby. It’s number 110, operated by Vamus, which goes between Portimão and Lagoa about eight times a day on weekdays and only four times on weekends. Because it’s so infrequent, you should go by car or Uber instead.
