It’s not just the name (“Kisses Beach”) that makes this a romantic beach, it’s also the scenery. It’s small and secluded, sheltered by golden cliffs and rocks in the water. The name attracts couples, but there’s no love story behind it. It’s said to derive from the small shells often found here, which people called “little kisses.”
It’s never as crowded as other beaches in the area, as most people only discover it when walking over the cliffs from the resorts to the east and west. Following the trail over the cliff to the west is highly recommended, as it offers a beautiful view of the coast, all the way to Armação de Pêra and Albufeira.
When the tide rises, the beach becomes even smaller, but at low tide and when the sea is calm, it’s good for swimming and children love to play in the shallow waters around the rocks. Unfortunately, this beach is not suitable for those with mobility issues, as you need to go down a steep staircase to reach it.
When choosing the right spot to spread your towel, respect the signs telling you to keep a safe distance from the cliffs, as rocks may fall.
There are no lifeguards or any facilities or rentals at this beach. Always bring enough water and food, and an umbrella if you prefer shade. For meals or to go to the bathroom, you need to walk to the nearest beach, Praia do Vale do Olival, about 10 minutes to the east (to the left when facing the sea).
